COMMUNITY AFFAIRS

Supporting Communities

Your Community is Our Community

Across our rail network, the mission of the Community Affairs team is to build and strengthen relationships with the communities we serve. We are more than just a train rolling through your town. Our employees, family, and friends live all along our network in the towns our trains move through. That’s why we’re proud to serve our communities through local engagements and partnerships, community programs, initiatives to help local businesses, and more.

Safety in Your Community

At Norfolk Southern, everything starts with safety, especially for the communities we serve. That’s why we’re training first responders in your town, why we’re advancing technologies with the sole purpose of improving safety, and why we are continuously working to ensure we have safe tracks and safe bridges across our entire network. We know you have questions about safety, so we have answers.

Surplus and Scrap Auctions

If you’re looking to own a piece of the railroad, our Asset Disposition group manages auction sales for surplus equipment and scrap.

In Your Community

Moving essential goods that businesses and households rely on for daily work and living is our primary role in the economy – but our railroad contributes more to the communities we serve. From volunteerism and charitable giving to public-private partnerships that spur jobs and growth, we want to help our communities thrive and prosper.

Community Event Notification

For safety reasons, if you’re planning a parade, festival, or other event that involves crossing our tracks, you must notify us. To help ensure the safety of event participants, railroad employees, and your community, we always encourage event organizers to avoid locations near railroad tracks.
